SBA Selects Albany SBDC as Regional SBDC Excellence and Innovation Award Winner

ALBANY, N.Y. – The U.S. Small Business Administration has selected the Albany Small Business Development Center (SBDC) as the Region II winner of the 2018 SBDC Excellence and Innovation Award. SBA’s Region II includes New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Nominated by the New York State SBDC Central Office, the Albany SBDC was chosen as one of the top 10 centers nationwide based on economic impact and for championing small business concerns, developing innovative programs, and surpassing milestones for small business success.

The Albany SBDC has served the small business community in the Capital District for over 30 years, providing business assistance to over 23,000 entrepreneurs. Leading by example, the Albany SBDC’s innovative programming efforts include their character-based SEED microloan program as well as specialized mentoring through their technology entrepreneur in residence program, SBIR Tech Plus Pilot program, and EntreSkills. The center’s relationship with the University at Albany’s School of Business creates a win-win for both students and small business clients; students review business plans, create cash flow projections and complete internships. The Albany SBDC consistently ranks among the top SBDCs in the state network based on factors such as efficiency and client satisfaction. The economic impact of the Albany SBDC since the center opened in 1984 includes $413 million in local economic investment and 12,338 jobs created or saved.

The Albany SBDC will receive the Region II award at SBA’s annual awards luncheon on May 3 at the Albany Marriott Hotel in Albany as part of SBA’s National Small Business Week celebration.
