Area officials, groups mark Small Business Week
During National Small Business Week, Chautauqua County Executive P.J. Wendel attended a special event hosted by Ashville General Store. Organized by the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce and the Small Business Development Center at JCC, the celebration was designed to highlight the importance of small businesses to our local economy, pay tribute to the many small business owners and employees countywide, and also as a way to kick off the Chamber's spring membership drive.

JCC Small Business Development Center Gives Mark Geise Phoenix Award
The Small Business Development Center at Jamestown Community College has recognized Mark Geise with the U.S. Small Business Administration Phoenix Award for Outstanding Contributions to Disaster Recovery.
JCC SBDC said that Geise, as the Deputy County Executive for Economic Development and CEO of the County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency (CCIDA), helped many small businesses throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Two Chautauqua County Business Owners Recognized as Statewide Entrepreneurs of the Year
"In Jamestown, Hot Spot Cafe owner Hector Alverio has been honored with the New York State Minority Entrepreneur of the Year award. Alverio opened the cafe on Valentine’s Day 2020, just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the shut-down, he implemented take out service. The NYSBDC said since restrictions have been lifted, his restaurant has become a real “hot spot” for city officials, police officers, and other downtown business owners for breakfast and lunch. He is now expanding into catering events.
In Ashville, Ashville General Store owner Jackie Francis has been honored with the New York State Community Business of the Year award. Francis opened The Ashville General Store in 1991. NYSBDC said it quickly became a place for locals and tourists to visit." WRFA LP 107.9 FM

SBA, SBDC Complete Mission for Scott Seiberg’s Road to Franchise Ownership
When Air Force veteran Scott Seiberg wanted to open a JDog Junk Removal and Hauling franchise, he turned to the Jamestown SBDC: “I had the work ethic and dedication, but I didn’t have the knowledge of how to start my own business.” Seiberg met with SBDC advisor Dan Hickman who reviewed franchise costs, developed projections and formulated a business plan that would assist him in applying for loan. Now, one-year in business, Seiberg received his loan, purchased a vehicle, a trailer and has three employees.
