Starting a Business: The SBDC Primer

Building a Business: The SBDC Primer, is a six hour introductory course offered by the Watertown Small Business Development Center (SBDC) to anyone interested in starting a business. The Watertown SBDC has offices at SUNY Jefferson and SUNY Oswego and is funded by the federal government and New York State to provide expert advice on all aspects of starting a business to residents. BYOB will be held at the Annie P. Ainsworth Memorial Library in Sandy Creek from 10 am – 1 pm on Saturday, March 28 and April 4, with an optional “Pitchfest” on Saturday, April 18 where participants are invited to give SBDC staff and other attendees a brief introduction to their business for the purpose of receiving feedback on the idea, execution, name, etc. This class provides an overview of all aspects of starting your business; marketing, financing, bookkeeping, contracts, taxation, insurance, legal, social media, intellectual property, licensing and more.
