New York Small Business Development Centers provide no-cost, confidential 1-on-1 business advisement, training, and research to small business owners and entrepreneurs in New York.

Our advisors are not just consultants – but neighbors and friends. We live in the communities we serve, bringing empathy and understanding as guiding principles—and lifelines—for our clients.

Our network is deeply rooted in the local community. We meet people where they are and touch every community in New York State with 20 regional centers, and over 70 satellite and outreach sites. In 2023 53% of our clients were women, 41% were minorities, 10% were rural, 5% were veterans and 3% had a disability. In our work, we strive to reach every New Yorker.
We educate and create learning pathways.
Our centers are built on the backbone of our educational host institutions (SUNY, CUNY, and Pace University). We serve as launch pads out into the community, nurturing small businesses through innovative educational programming.
We research and provide data-driven solutions.
By closing the loop between research, data, and client service, our network fosters an environment of continuous learning and innovation. This adaptive approach ensures that our organization remains agile and responsive to the ever-changing needs of New York’s small businesses.
The New York SBDC is a joint federal & state economic development organization, administered by the State University of New York and funded in part through a Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration.

As we continue to reset, modernize and build on the many successes of our almost 40 year old state network, one word keeps coming to mind. “Fortitude.”
The fortitude and unyielding strength to get in the weeds and have the tough conversations. The inner toughness and steadfast steel, that enables us to face challenges head-on and persist despite adversities. Rooted in a deep compassion and belief we have in each other and in our clients, we seek to get better and improve. Much like our clients do every day.
I am extremely blessed to be surrounded by an amazing statewide team of staff, advisors and directors who embrace that; who aren’t afraid to be visionaries, think differently, and keep driving forward. Flexible. Nimble. Innovative. The bedrock of our success is the incredible expertise and caring that our directors, advisors and staff have for our small business clients. They have changed countless lives; they are architects of empowerment, tirelessly bridging communities and carving out avenues for advancement.
