February 16, 2025 BrooklynCenter News

One of the New York SBDC’s advisors was recently featured on national television, stepping in to help a struggling restaurant on Kitchen Nightmares. Running a small business is often not smooth sailing—and severe challenges can arise. That’s where the SBDC steps in. When others walk away, our business advisors roll up their sleeves and get to work. We serve everyone no matter who comes through the door.

In Season 8, Episode 8, renowned chef Gordon Ramsay introduced Pedro Soto Jr., a business advisor at the Manhattan & Brooklyn SBDC, as a key resource for a restaurant owner facing a turning point. Ramsay emphasized the importance of expert business guidance, stating:

“Going forward it may feel scary now that you have the whole weight on your shoulders, but with this gentleman advising you, it will be a great support for you.”

Pedro Soto Jr., who has helped well over 600 businesses in Brooklyn and Manhattan, reassured the restaurant owner:

“I have, I’ve actually seen worse. I think we should remain positive. I am going to constantly check in on what you are doing, connect you with as many organizations as we can in Brooklyn, and try and get you going.”

“I’m definitely going to be here to help. I know you have a situation with staffing. We’ll see what we can do about the situation. Also you have a loan, likely we work with those lenders, we’ll see what are your available options as well as have those solidified. So I’m hoping this makes you feel a little bit better.”

Soto’s work embodies the SBDC’s mission—providing expert guidance and hands-on support to small businesses facing obstacles. Whether it’s staffing challenges, discussing loan options, or business strategy, New York SBDC advisors stand ready to help entrepreneurs turn things around.
