In 2022, Kendra Payne teamed up with the Mid-Hudson SBDC to scale The Herbal Scoop, her herbal farm and botanical shop. Working closely with advisor Cynthia Clune, she refined her business plan and financial projections to strategically expand operations. Their ongoing partnership proved instrumental in securing $99,000 in financing by 2024—enabling a move to a larger Narrowsburg location. The expansion introduced a wellness café, juice bar, and elixir shots, while creating new opportunities for local collaborations. Today, The Herbal Scoop thrives as both a retail destination and community wellness hub, blending herbal expertise with sustainable growth.
The Herbal Scoop
The Herbal Scoop’s journey from a small herbal farm to a flourishing wellness hub is a testament to passion, planning, and community support. Founded in 2019 by herbalist Kendra Payne, the business began as a humble botanical shop in Callicoon, offering handcrafted tea blends, elixirs, and herbal products—many sourced from its own farm. Fast forward to 2024, and The Herbal Scoop has blossomed into something even greater, relocating to a spacious new home at 90 Main Street in Narrowsburg, NY.
The expansion has allowed Kendra to broaden her offerings, introducing a juice bar, elixir shots, a wellness café, and future collaborations with local bakeries for herbal-infused treats. Every product reflects her deep knowledge of botanicals and her commitment to balancing health, wellness, and delicious flavor.
Behind the scenes, this growth was no accident. In January 2022, Kendra began working with the Mid-Hudson Small Business Development Center (SBDC) to refine her business strategy and financial projections. With guidance from Certified Business Advisor Cynthia Clune, she fine-tuned her plans and secured $99,000 in funding by June 2024—a mix of financing and owner investment—to bring her vision to life. The funds supported leasehold upgrades, new equipment, inventory, and working capital, paving the way for a grand opening in Narrowsburg on August 1, 2024.
Today, The Herbal Scoop stands as more than just a shop—it’s a destination for holistic living, where Kendra’s expertise and dedication continue to nurture both her customers and the business itself. With each cup of tea and every wellness elixir, she’s writing the next chapter of her herbal success story.
