Upstate Oral Surgery Thrives with SBDC Support, Expands to New Office

In the summer of 2019, Dr. Logan Curtis, DDS, a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon, transitioned from full-time Army service to open Upstate Oral Surgery and Dental Implants in Watertown, NY. Starting a business from scratch, especially without business training, was a significant challenge. Dr. Curtis turned to the SBDC for guidance. The SBDC was instrumental in helping him secure a $919,900 loan with a 75% SBA guarantee, providing crucial assistance in creating necessary documentation and business plans.

With SBDC’s support, Upstate Oral Surgery and Dental Implants opened its doors with seven employees. The practice has grown immensely, now employing 15 staff members and expanding to a new office with additional surgeons. The practice offers a range of services including dental implants, wisdom teeth removal, and full-arch dental implants, all aimed at providing exceptional patient care in a comfortable environment.
